Spring 2019 Internship – Week 3
Unboxing and cataloging of new materials continues. My supervisor is hoping that there will be a lot of materials that overlap with what we already had – I have been directed to set aside any third or fourth copies of publications to weed out. So far, though, most of the materials are new to the collection. It is slow work, but I have come up with a preliminary organizational plan based on Library of Congress subject heading classifications as well as the Dewey Decimal System. Categories of organization include cartography, general reference materials, geology, hydrology, economic geology, and fossils/prehistoric life. As I catalog books, I am putting them in corresponding piles to begin this organization.
